Tilt-and-turn windows work very well with shutters, provided the shutter does not obstruct the handle or prevent the window from opening or tilting. Installation is therefore designed around the window’s full range of movement, not just its closed position.

A solution in front of the window

A frame can be positioned further forward, leaving enough space for the window handle and sash behind the shutters. This can be a calm and practical solution for deep reveals or wall-mounted installation.

Extra-deep frame

When the shutters are positioned closer to the window, an extra-deep frame can create the necessary clearance. In Arendonk, black shutters in RAL 9017 with 89 mm louvres and ClearView were installed this way, keeping the tilt-and-turn function usable.

Directly on or around the window

In some situations, the shutter structure can be aligned directly with the window or frame. The handle mechanism must then be incorporated into the technical design, and the additional weight must not interfere with the window’s operation.

Hinges and panel configuration

Concealed hinges create a clean appearance, but the available opening angle remains the priority. The panels must be able to open fully without touching the wall, windowsill or adjacent window.

Measuring with the window in every position

During the measuring appointment, the window is opened and tilted. The adviser checks the handle, tilt position, seals and available clearance. Only then are the frame, panel configuration and operating mechanism finalised.

Short answer

The essentials at a glance

Smart installation that keeps the handle accessible and the tilt position usable. The right solution combines the actual window and living situation with the material, dimensions and day-to-day use.

Practical: Use photos and approximate measurements for an initial orientation, but have every window professionally assessed before confirming the installation.

The choices that make the difference

Four points to assess before requesting a quotation

1

Window type

Dimensions, shape, handles and opening direction form the technical foundation.

2

Room

Privacy, light, moisture and the interior guide the choice of material and layout.

3

Appearance

Colour, louvre size and panel layout make the shutters part of the interior.

4

Use

Panels and louvres must remain practical and accessible for everyday use.

Avoid disappointment

Common mistakes when buying shutters

  • Making a decision based on a product photo alone
  • Overlooking how the window functions
  • Treating made-to-measure shutters as a standard product

From idea to installation

How a carefully managed made-to-measure process works

  1. Collect photos and approximate measurements of the windows.
  2. Compare material, colour, louvre size and operation.
  3. Have every window professionally measured at multiple points.
  4. Confirm the panel layout, technical details, price and schedule.
  5. Have your shutters installed, adjusted and explained to you.

Frequently asked questions

Can the window still be tilted with shutters in front of it?

Yes, provided the frame, panel configuration and distance from the window are designed accordingly. An extra-deep frame can create enough space to retain the tilt position.

What happens to the window handle?

The handle must remain accessible and must not touch the shutter. Depending on the solution, the installation may be positioned further forward or the operating mechanism may be technically adapted.

Are concealed hinges possible with tilt-and-turn windows?

They can be, provided the frame and panel dimensions are suitable. The choice is based on the desired appearance, available space and preferred opening direction.

Is the same solution suitable for every window or room?

No. Smart installation that keeps the handle accessible and the tilt position usable. The window type, dimensions, installation position, material load and day-to-day use are assessed for each situation.

What does DeVo check during the professional site survey?

We take measurements at multiple points and check the frame, reveal, handles, opening direction, windowsill, available panel clearance, and the desired louvre and panel configuration, among other details.

How do louvre size and panel configuration affect the result?

They determine how many lines you see, how open the view through is and how practically the panels can open. The proportions in relation to the window matter more than one standard size.

Can I compare materials, colours and operating options first?

Yes. During your consultation and in the Oud-Turnhout showroom, you can compare current collections, colour samples, louvre sizes and operating options side by side.
