Louvre profiles
The main difference lies in the proportions and view through the louvres
The louvre width determines how many horizontal lines you see and how much space appears between the louvres when they are open. That is why we always compare louvre sizes with the actual window dimensions.
The exact louvre sizes available vary by collection and are checked during your consultation.
Louvre size defines the look of the window
76 or 89 mm: choose based on proportion, view-through and appearance
The 13 mm difference may seem small, but across an entire window it noticeably changes the rhythm. That is why we choose louvres in relation to the window height, panel width and interior—not in isolation.
More horizontal lines across the same window.
Fewer lines and a more open visual effect.
Dark colours stand out more; light colours look subtler.

We consider the height, width and vertical frame lines.
Panel layout
First, we determine a balanced and technically practical panel layout.
Comparing louvre sizes
76 and 89 mm are assessed for rhythm, view-through and suitability for the interior.
Confirmed during measuring
The chosen size is finalised together with the collection, colour and operation.
Personal made-to-measure advice
Would you like to compare 76 and 89 mm side by side?
View the louvre sizes in our showroom, or let us advise you on which proportion best suits your windows.
There is no universal winner between 76 and 89 mm. The best louvre size depends on the window height, panel width, desired view-through and the number of horizontal lines that suit the interior. Comparing a real sample gives a more reliable impression than looking at a photo alone.
76 mm: a slightly finer rhythm
A 76 mm louvre creates more horizontal lines within the same window height. This can suit medium-sized windows or interiors where a more refined rhythm is desired. In Oud-Turnhout and Puurs, 76 mm louvres have been combined with ClearView shutters.
89 mm: a calm look and more spacious view-through
An 89 mm louvre creates fewer lines and can give wide or tall windows a calmer appearance. When the louvres are open, they often create a more expansive sightline. Various projects featuring 89 mm louvres have been completed in Turnhout, Arendonk and Essen.
The window layout remains more important than the number
A wide louvre does not automatically resolve a busy panel layout. Stiles, cross rails and panels must first work with the window frame. The louvre size can then be selected to support the right proportions.
Colour changes the overall impression
Black louvres stand out more clearly and make the rhythm more visible. White reflects more light and can make the same size appear subtler. That is why colour and louvre size are assessed together.
Test view-through and operation in person
View a sample fully open, half-tilted and closed. This lets you assess not only its appearance, but also the level of privacy and visibility in each position. In our showroom, 76 and 89 mm can be compared side by side.

Frequently asked questions
Which louvre size provides the best view-through?
At a similar angle, a wider louvre generally provides a more spacious, calmer view between the louvres. The actual view-through also depends on the window height, panel width and installation.
Are 76 mm louvres only suitable for small windows?
No. A 76 mm louvre can also suit larger windows when a slightly finer rhythm is desired. The result depends on its proportion to the window and interior.
Can I compare 76 and 89 mm in the showroom?
Yes. It is advisable to view both sizes in person, as photos only give a limited impression of the difference in rhythm, depth and view-through.
How can I assess this choice in my own interior?
View samples in daylight alongside the window frame, wall, floor and fixed furniture. A colour or proportion may look different on a small screen than across an entire window.
Is the same solution suitable for every window or room?
No. Compare the appearance, view-through and proportions of 76 and 89 mm louvres across different window formats. The window type, dimensions, installation position, material load and everyday use are assessed for each situation.
What does DeVo check during the professional site survey?
We take measurements at multiple points and check the frame, reveal, handles, opening direction, windowsill, available panel clearance, and the desired louvre and panel configuration, among other details.
How do louvre size and panel configuration affect the result?
They determine how many lines you see, how open the view through is and how practically the panels can open. The proportions in relation to the window matter more than one standard size.
