Design Shutters is a style, not a standalone collection
The former name Design Shutters referred to a specific design. Today, we use the term more broadly: as a design approach that creates a unique window finish using the current DeVo collections. The result can be sleek and modern, warm and rustic, industrial, classic or distinctly minimalist. The shape of the window, material, colour and panel configuration are considered as one design.
Five elements define the design style
1. Material
DeVo Signature provides a calm, natural wooden foundation. Sandblasted brings out the wood grain more prominently. Naturel Oak creates an exclusive natural look. Hydro is suitable for humid rooms, while Aluminium creates a strong, sleek and modern appearance.
2. Colour
White and soft neutral shades create a calm, light look. Black, anthracite or coffee create contrast. Natural wood connects the shutters with floors, furniture and other natural materials.
3. Louvre size
Smaller louvres create more rhythm and a more refined look. 89-millimetre louvres appear spacious and modern, while providing an expansive view outside when open.
4. Panel configuration
Where possible, the lines of the shutters are aligned with window frame sections, transoms and sightlines. A well-considered configuration creates a calm design and ensures the panels open practically.
5. Operation and details
ClearView or Ultra ClearView keeps the front of the shutters looking clean and uncluttered. A visible tilt rod can be chosen deliberately for a more classic appearance. Hinges, tracks and frame design also influence the overall look.
Which design style suits your home?
Modern and minimalist
Choose calm colours, wide louvres, ClearView and a simple panel configuration. DeVo Signature, Oak or Aluminium can work particularly well here.
Rural and warm
A visible wood grain, natural shades and a classic configuration create warmth. Sandblasted, Pinewood, Ashwood and Oak are strong starting points.
Industrial
Black or dark shutters, large louvres and strong lines work well with steel, concrete and dark window frames. Aluminium or dark-finished wood can enhance the design.
Classic and elegant
Finer louvres, symmetrical panels and a visible tilt rod create a more traditional look. The colour is coordinated with window frames, wall mouldings and doors.
Distinctive architecture
Round, sloping, pointed and tall windows are not hidden but emphasised. Special shapes follow the true geometry, turning the window into a focal point.
From inspiration to a workable design
A beautiful image is only a starting point. During the free measuring service, we check whether the chosen style is technically suitable for the window, opening direction, available space and everyday use. We then finalise the material, colour, louvre size, panel configuration and operation in one made-to-measure proposal.
The result is not a standard product with a design label, but a shutter solution that genuinely suits the home and remains beautiful and practical for years to come.
Short answer
The essentials at a glance
A successful design brings colour, louvre size, panel layout and window-frame lines together in a single composition. Proportion matters more than following an isolated trend.
Practical: Compare colour, louvre size and panel layout with the window frame, floor and walls. This lets you assess the complete window composition rather than a small sample.
The choices that make the difference
Four points to assess before requesting a quotation
Tone-on-tone or contrast
A colour close to the window frame creates a calm look; black or natural wood gives the window greater presence.
Louvre size
Wide louvres create fewer lines and a clearer view through; narrower louvres create a more refined rhythm.
Panel layout
Where possible, stiles and intermediate rails align with the existing window divisions.
Samples in daylight
Colour and wood grain should be assessed alongside the floor, walls and window frame—not only on a screen.
Avoid disappointment
Common mistakes when buying shutters
- Choosing colour under artificial light
- Giving every window the same panel width without checking the dimensions
- Prioritising a trend over the proportions of the window
From idea to installation
How a carefully managed made-to-measure process works
- Collect photos and approximate measurements of the windows.
- Compare material, colour, louvre size and operation.
- Have every window professionally measured at multiple points.
- Confirm the panel layout, technical details, price and schedule.
- Have your shutters installed, adjusted and explained to you.

Frequently asked questions
Is Design Shutters still a separate collection?
No. Design Shutters is no longer a standalone product collection. It is a design approach in which we use the current collections, colours, louvre sizes and panel configurations to create a distinctive style.
Which collections can be used to create a design style?
Depending on the desired look, DeVo Signature, Hydro, Sandblasted, Oak, Aluminium and special shapes can be used. The material and application must be technically suitable for the space.
Can DeVo create a design that complements my interior?
Yes. During the measuring appointment, we assess the window frame, room, colours, sightlines and everyday use. We then recommend the collection, louvre size, operation and panel configuration that together create the desired design.
How can I assess this choice in my own interior?
View samples in daylight alongside the window frame, wall, floor and fixed furniture. A colour or proportion may look different on a small screen than across an entire window.
Is the same solution suitable for every window or room?
No. Discover how material, colour, louvre size and panel configuration come together to create a unique design style. Window type, dimensions, installation position, material load and everyday use are assessed for each situation.
What does DeVo check during the professional site survey?
We take measurements at multiple points and check the frame, reveal, handles, opening direction, windowsill, available panel clearance, and the desired louvre and panel configuration, among other details.
How do louvre size and panel configuration affect the result?
They determine how many lines you see, how open the view through is and how practically the panels can open. The proportions in relation to the window matter more than one standard size.
