Ashwood: strong ash wood with a refined grain

Ashwood has a distinct but generally more even grain than Pinewood. The Sandblasted finish accentuates the wood grain, while the overall look can remain calm and modern.

Difference between Ashwood and Pinewood

Pinewood features warmer, more expressive grain patterns. Ashwood has a cleaner look, making it a good match for light natural materials, concrete, black steel and modern renovations. Both collections require a considered choice of material; the same photos should not replace seeing the differences between the wood types.

Design choices

Louvre size, colour and panel layout are coordinated with the visible grain and the scale of the window. On wide windows, a calm panel layout can prevent the structured wood grain from appearing too busy.

Maintenance

Clean with a dry or barely damp soft cloth. Do not use abrasive products, and always work in the direction of the grain.

Short answer

The essentials at a glance

The material determines the appearance, weight, maintenance requirements and suitability for the room. The best choice depends on the load and the desired atmosphere, not just on a photograph.

Practical: Assess material samples in daylight and in the actual room. Texture, maintenance and stability can vary significantly between collections.

The choices that make the difference

Four points to assess before requesting a quotation

1

Texture and colour

Oak, Basswood, Pinewood, Ashwood, Hydro and aluminium each respond differently to light and finishes.

2

Room and load

Humidity, sunlight, intensive use and panel size can influence the choice of material.

3

Maintenance

Smooth material is cleaned differently from a tactile wood grain or natural oak surface.

4

Panel size and engineering

Weight and stability determine which dimensions, hinges and operating systems are appropriate.

Avoid disappointment

Common mistakes when buying shutters

  • Choosing the material based on price alone
  • Assessing a small sample as if it were the entire window
  • Forgetting about maintenance and moisture exposure

From idea to installation

How a carefully managed made-to-measure process works

  1. Collect photos and approximate measurements of the windows.
  2. Compare material, colour, louvre size and operation.
  3. Have every window professionally measured at multiple points.
  4. Confirm the panel layout, technical details, price and schedule.
  5. Have your shutters installed, adjusted and explained to you.

Frequently asked questions

What is characteristic of Ashwood shutters?

Ashwood is an ash wood with a strong, relatively refined grain. The Sandblasted finish makes the structure visible without creating the same expressive look as Pinewood.

When is Ashwood a better choice than Pinewood?

Ashwood is a good choice when you want a tactile wood grain with a calmer, more modern overall look. Pinewood is more suitable when a warm, expressive grain is intended to stand out.

Are Ashwood shutters made to measure?

Yes. The panel layout, louvre size, colour and installation are determined for each window following a professional measuring appointment.

Is the same solution suitable for every window or room?

No. Strong ash wood with a refined, subtle grain. The window type, dimensions, installation position, material load and everyday use are assessed for each individual situation.

What does DeVo check during the professional site survey?

We take measurements at multiple points and check the frame, reveal, handles, opening direction, windowsill, available panel clearance, and the desired louvre and panel configuration, among other details.

How do louvre size and panel configuration affect the result?

They determine how many lines you see, how open the view through is and how practically the panels can open. The proportions in relation to the window matter more than one standard size.

Can I compare materials, colours and operating options first?

Yes. During your consultation and in the Oud-Turnhout showroom, you can compare current collections, colour samples, louvre sizes and operating options side by side.
