Privacy and light control in the bedroom

Shutters give you extensive control over privacy and morning or evening light in the bedroom. Tilting the louvres provides more privacy without having to close the window completely.

Shutters do not provide complete blackout

Closed louvres reduce a great deal of light, but some light may still filter through along the louvres, panels and joints. A supplementary solution may be needed for complete blackout.

A balanced panel layout

Where possible, panel joints and mid-rails are aligned with the window-frame lines to keep the window wall looking calm, particularly when several bedroom windows are next to one another.

Colour and material

Light shades keep a bedroom calm and spacious. Dark shutters can create a luxurious contrast. For ordinary dry bedrooms, wooden collections are a logical starting point.

Keeping ventilation and window handles accessible

For tilt-and-turn windows or ventilation settings, the installation is designed to keep everyday airing practical.

Short answer

The essentials at a glance

In a bedroom, the choice is about privacy, peace and control over morning and evening light. Shutters significantly reduce light, but they are not completely light-tight roller shutters.

Practical: Decide in advance how much privacy and light reduction you expect. The louvre position and panel configuration can then be designed accordingly.

The choices that make the difference

Four points to assess before requesting a quotation

1

Desired level of light reduction

Decide whether your priority is limiting visibility from outside or making the room as dark as possible.

2

Louvre and split configuration

A split configuration can provide privacy below while allowing daylight in above.

3

Colour and ambience

Light shades create a calm look, while dark wood or black can create a more cocooning, hotel-style atmosphere.

4

Furniture and access routes

Beds, cupboards and radiators must not obstruct the opening of the panels.

Avoid disappointment

Common mistakes when buying shutters

  • Expecting complete blackout
  • Failing to account for a bed or cupboard in front of the window
  • Looking only at closed shutters

From idea to installation

How a carefully managed made-to-measure process works

  1. Collect photos and approximate measurements of the windows.
  2. Compare material, colour, louvre size and operation.
  3. Have every window professionally measured at multiple points.
  4. Confirm the panel layout, technical details, price and schedule.
  5. Have your shutters installed, adjusted and explained to you.

Frequently asked questions

Is the same solution suitable for every window or room?

No. Calm, privacy and reduced incoming light. The window type, dimensions, installation position, material load and everyday use are assessed for each situation.

What does DeVo check during the professional site survey?

We take measurements at multiple points and check the frame, reveal, handles, opening direction, windowsill, available panel clearance, and the desired louvre and panel configuration, among other details.

How do louvre size and panel configuration affect the result?

They determine how many lines you see, how open the view through is and how practically the panels can open. The proportions in relation to the window matter more than one standard size.

Can I compare materials, colours and operating options first?

Yes. During your consultation and in the Oud-Turnhout showroom, you can compare current collections, colour samples, louvre sizes and operating options side by side.

Are measuring and installation included in the process?

Yes. DeVo guides the project from advice and technical measuring through to made-to-measure production, installation, adjustment and guidance on use and care.
