Examples of shutters on a track

Shutters on a track are designed for wide openings where conventional hinged panels would take up too much space. The panels can slide or fold and are guided to a predetermined parking position. That is why a well-designed track system starts with the room’s circulation route.

Sliding or folding

With a sliding system, panels move alongside one another or along the opening. A folding system connects the panels so they move as a concertina to one or both sides. The available wall space and desired passage determine the most logical direction.

Single or double-track system

Where sufficient depth is available, a double track can allow more panels to be parked behind one another. The Antwerp project uses a double-track sliding system across a wide window wall. The panel arrangement and clear opening are calculated precisely in advance.

Top and bottom guidance

The construction must run straight and remain stable. The ceiling line, floor, lintel and fixing substrate are checked. A track must not jam because of differences in height and must remain accessible for adjustment.

Panel width and everyday use

Very wide panels create a calm appearance but require sufficient parking and operating space. Narrower panels are more flexible but create more vertical lines. The proportions are tailored to the glazing, furniture and passage.

Projects in Schilde and Turnhout

The shutters in Schilde combine 64 mm louvres and ClearView with a sliding track. In Turnhout, a different wide window configuration was fitted with 89 mm louvres and ClearView on tracks. Both show that tracks are not a one-size-fits-all solution.

Short answer

The essentials at a glance

A track-based solution is particularly useful for wide windows and doorways where conventional hinged panels would take up too much space. The parking position and clear opening are essential considerations.

Practical: As well as the window opening, check where the panels will sit when open. The parking position determines how much of the opening and glazing remains clear.

The choices that make the difference

Four points to assess before requesting a quotation

1

Width and weight

Panel dimensions and construction determine which track and guide system is required.

2

Parking position

The position of the open panels and the amount of glazing or passage that remains clear are established in advance.

3

Floor and ceiling

The substrate, level differences and fixings are checked technically.

4

Everyday use

The panels must slide smoothly, while the louvres must remain accessible for light control.

Avoid disappointment

Common mistakes when buying shutters

  • Failing to allow space for parked panels
  • Looking only at the closed position
  • Underestimating floor or ceiling irregularities

From idea to installation

How a carefully managed made-to-measure process works

  1. Collect photos and approximate measurements of the windows.
  2. Compare material, colour, louvre size and operation.
  3. Have every window professionally measured at multiple points.
  4. Confirm the panel layout, technical details, price and schedule.
  5. Have your shutters installed, adjusted and explained to you.

Frequently asked questions

When should you choose shutters on a track?

For wide glazed areas, sliding doors or situations where there is little room for conventional hinged panels, a track solution can be practical. The panels slide or fold to a predetermined parking position.

Can a track system be configured with two tracks?

Yes, where sufficient depth is available, a double-track sliding system may be possible. The track arrangement, panel width and clear opening are determined during the technical measuring appointment.

Is a floor track always necessary?

Not always. The system and dimensions determine whether top and/or bottom guidance is required. The installation surface must be able to support the construction safely.

Is the same solution suitable for every window or room?

No. Sliding or folding panels for wide windows and doorways. The window type, dimensions, installation position, material load and everyday use are assessed for each situation.

What does DeVo check during the professional site survey?

We take measurements at multiple points and check the frame, reveal, handles, opening direction, windowsill, available panel clearance, and the desired louvre and panel configuration, among other details.

How do louvre size and panel configuration affect the result?

They determine how many lines you see, how open the view through is and how practically the panels can open. The proportions in relation to the window matter more than one standard size.

Can I compare materials, colours and operating options first?

Yes. During your consultation and in the Oud-Turnhout showroom, you can compare current collections, colour samples, louvre sizes and operating options side by side.
